Breaking Futures Again
Yesterday—on a challenging day for many people—our friends Malka Older, Jake Dunagan and Christopher Brown were kind enough to reassemble for a session of Breaking Futures, our second in the past four years, where we discussed what we'd learned in the last 24 hours post-US election, how we got here, and possible pathways forward for pluralistic, participatory democracy in the US.
We talked about the shifting cone of possibility for future governance, the mindset of voters, the failures of information dissemination, and the historical parallels that inform current events. We finished up with discussion of where we might find new visions of the future, the role of democracy, and the potential for constitutional redesign in response to emerging crises. And we kept a functional sense of humor while doing it.
